MicDrop support
Most problems are a network or firewall setting. Work through these fixes, and if you're still stuck, email us with your diagnostics log.
My phone won't connect to the plugin
- Load the plugin. MicDrop must be loaded on a track in your DAW and show Engine Connected. The phone connects to the plugin, not to the DAW.
- Use the same network. Phone and computer must be on the same Wi-Fi, or the computer joined to the phone's hotspot. Guest networks and some office or school Wi-Fi block devices from reaching each other.
- Allow the firewall prompt. On Windows, allow MicDrop Engine on Private networks. If you dismissed the prompt, open Windows Security → Firewall & network protection → Allow an app through firewall. On Mac, allow incoming connections and local network access for MicDrop if asked.
- Try the QR code or IP address. In the app, go to Connect → Scan QR Code and scan the code in the plugin's Connect tab, or type the IP address shown there.
- Approve the phone. For Nearby and IP connections, click Approve in the plugin when the request appears. Requests expire after two minutes.
MicDrop doesn't show up in my DAW
- Rescan plugins. Most DAWs only find new plugins after a rescan or restart.
- Check the folder. On Mac, the installer puts the plugin in
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins; on Windows, inC:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. Make sure your DAW scans that folder. - Check your system. The Mac plugin needs Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. On Windows, use a 64-bit DAW.
- Logic Pro and GarageBand use the AU version. If it's listed as failed, open Logic's Plug-in Manager and reset and rescan MicDrop.
My takes aren't arriving
- Check the take's status in the app's Takes tab. On phone means it hasn't been sent: turn on Auto Send or open the take and tap Send to Desktop.
- Failed means the transfer didn't finish. Use Retry All in the Takes tab once you're connected again.
- The plugin has to be loaded in your DAW to receive takes. Takes that arrived are kept in
Music/MicDrop/Recordingson your computer, so you can find them later even with the DAW closed.
Live Mic breaks up or has a long delay
- Switch the latency mode to Stable if the sound breaks up, or Low on a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi for less delay.
- Move closer to the router, or try your phone's hotspot or USB tethering.
- Use headphones to avoid feedback. Live Mic always has some delay; for the take you keep, record on the phone.
Contact us
Email support@micdrop.online with your phone model, computer, DAW and what you tried. A diagnostics log helps us find the problem fast: in the app, go to Settings → Send feedback and share it with your email. It contains connection and error events, never audio.
